After I've read HatakeKelley's essay about Deidara being superior to Sasuke (in genius terms) in their battle, I decided to make one also and point out some things.
Sasuke fans, I am not in any way bashing Sasuke or your fandom, nothing like that. However, I will be pointing out things that counter your "SASUKE-KUN WAS SO AMAZING!!!!" squealage. I am merely stating the truth of the matter.
I also got the idea from *HatakeKelley's essay on this, to kind of state how even though Sasuke did have more of an advantage, Deidara did to some levels also.
Deidara vs Sasuke-Superiority
Sasuke-kun was way stronger than Deidara!!
Yes, I know he was stronger. I can't argue with that. However, Sasuke gets his power mostly from Orochimaru's curse seal, which gives him immsense strength and practically an unlimited use of the chidori. Although he is a skilled swordsman and has developed Lee's use of the shishi rendan, he's still cheating. It was also stated in chapter 311 that most of his chakra and power upgrades also had to do with the use of forbidden jutsu and drugs. Besides that, he also depends heavily on Orochimaru's power and his snakes, and of course his sharingan. And as Deidara had once said "mistaking his gift of heredity for his own power" (or something along those lines), refering to how Sasuke sees his own natural bloodline as something incredibly powerful he developped. So yes, Sasuke did have the advantage in strength of this battle.
However, if he didn't have Orochimaru's curse seal, he would have easily lost to Deidara's C-2 Dragon.
This whole battle is exactly as though Sasuke and Deidara were two proffessional athletes, in which Sasuke took steroids, whereas Deidara gained his strength naturally through hard work and development. Although Sasuke has the advantage, Deidara's playing it a lot smarter.
No way Deidara could've won against Sasuke-kun one way or another! He was weaker!
As I said, yes, I know Sasuke had the advantage in strength in the battle, but I'll talk about how Deidara is superior to Sasuke in the sense of being a ninja genius.
As we've seen, Deidara has developped and created his jutsu all on his own withouth any help from anyone or anything like that. As an artist, it's apparent he would feel more proud of his techniques if he had created them himself as opposed to having copied them. His handmouths are not of a bloodline, but actually a forbidden jutsu. He also trained his normal left eye to counter the sharingan's genjutsu, which is really amazing and original in itself. As also seen in chapter 359 when there was a little flashback of Deidara's past, he seemed to have been a solitary worker. Therefore he hadn't had the help of anyone to develop his art like he did.
His techniques are amazing, and what makes them even more amazing was that he created and developped them all on his own. Although Sasuke had the advantage in strength, Deidara definitely had the advantage in originality by a long shot.
Sasuke-kun didn't kill Deidara!!! He killed himself!
Yes, I know that. I wish the anti-Sasuke fans would stop saying he killed Deidara. I'm glad he didn't because trust me, I would have had a very hard time liking him.
I'm still horribly sad that Deidara killed himself because you know I love him and he's my favourite Akatsuki and Naruto character in general, but I'm glad he died at his own leisure, in a way that he loves. So that is good, I am glad to know he died in that kind of way as opposed to Sasuke killing him.
So don't worry, I know fully well Sasuke didn't kill him. Although he did drive him to suicide, that's different because it wasn't just Sasuke, it was Orochimaru and Itachi, and even other things we may not know about. But the point is, I know Deidara killed himself, Sasuke didn't kill him.
Sasuke-kun was amazing when he summoned Manda to protect him and survive!!! <3
I think that part was utterly ridiculous. How the hell could he have done that?! Just moments before, he couldn't even STAND!
This also proves that Sasuke depends heavily on the Orochimaru's power and all the upgrades he had with the forbidden jutsu and drugs and whatnot. If Sasuke didn't have all that, there is no way in the seven depths of hell he could've survived the explosion.
Think about it. He had to activate the sharingan, and that alone takes a lot of energy and chakra. And then to summon a giant snake, come on, that just takes a little too much out of you! That with the sharingan, when he barely had any energy or chakra just moments before, that makes no sense! Now look, I know most would think that it's amazing, but unless you dig deeper and analyze the situation, you'll realize how utterly ridiculous it really was.
And guys, I'm not saying in any way that I wanted Sasuke to die. I'm saying that if he DID die, it would've been more logical! Logical. That's different than if I said "I want Sasuke to die!". That's the only reason I would have wanted Sasuke to die. This whole situation was so ridiculous, I think if he'd had died, it would've been more reasonable.
In a way it also reflects my frustration of the fact that Deidara killed himself for nothing. If Sasuke HAD died in the explosion, at least it wouldn't have been a complete waste.
Deidara was the weakest Akatsuki member. No wonder he lost to Sasuke-kun! <3
No, Deidara wasn't the weakest. I'm not saying that due to my personal feelings. I'm stating a fact. Although Deidara was the youngest, he was far from the weakest.
Example, if he had fought against Hidan, he would have easily surpassed him because Hidan has no experience in long-range combat and is not one to strategize.
Deidara would also have a bit of a chance against Itachi since he heavily relies on his sharingan.
Pein had also stated when it was found Deidara had died, that he was something else and an interesting addition to the Akatsuki (something along those lines, not those words exactly), so his death wasn't a complete waste. He was recognized for his strength and originality somehow.
Put it this way, Deidara isn't the strongest Akatsuki member, but also not the weakest, but one thing he really is, is unique. Definitely unique.
All in all, Deidara was superior to Sasuke in the sense of technique intelligence as opposed to actual strength.

Essays really aren't that easy to make...
First, the 'I admit yes, I side more with Deidara since I like him more, but that's not the point' thing. In an essay, if you side with anybody just because you like them better, it's not a very good essay, because writing essays between two things, is like judging a soccer game. If you side with the team you like better, than it really isn't fair. It's th same thing with essays.
I would also thing it would support your ideas and make your arguments more interesting if you put in other people said, other than Sasuke fans. (Let's face it; every single Sasuke fan/Deidara hater has said these things.)
And about the whole 'Sasuke had no energy left so he couldn't have summoned Manda'...there's some kind of chemical thing a ma jig that happens when your seriously scared of something and all of a sudden, gain superstrength like a super hero? (It happens, I know that at least. My teacher and I talked about it in Elementary school. It's like, parents lifting or stopping cars to save their children kind of thing. I heard it could happen when you when you feel like youre in a life threatening situation.) Do you think something like that could have happened? I'm no expert on it, so I can't be sure. What's your opinion?
Re: Essays really aren't that easy to make...
To a degree, yes, in a way somehow we all seem to find an inner strength when we're at physical weak states, and I'm not an expert on this either, but I hardly doubt it makes us super beings.
And then again anime and manga exagerate things since it's fiction and drawn, anything can happen.
